Bag Filter vs Cartridge Filter: How to Choose for Liquid Filtration
Bag filters and cartridge filters can both remove particles from process liquids, but they are not interchangeable. The better choice depends on solids loading, target micron rating, flow rate, pressure drop and how the filter will be maintained.
Selection Guidance
When this matters
Bag filters are usually selected when the process contains a higher dirt load or when maintenance teams need quick replacement with moderate filtration precision. A bag filter housing can handle practical pre-filtration, batch transfer and general process filtration in water treatment, coatings, chemicals, oils and manufacturing liquids.
What to compare
Cartridge filters are often selected when finer particle control or more surface area is required. Pleated cartridges can support polishing filtration, lower clean pressure drop and more consistent removal where liquid clarity or downstream protection matters.
Common mistakes to avoid
A useful selection starts with the application goal. If the goal is equipment protection and larger particle removal, a basket strainer or bag filter may be enough. If the goal is final clarity or tighter particle control, a cartridge filter housing may be more suitable.
Information to prepare
Buyers should compare micron rating, dirt-holding capacity, replacement cost, cleaning frequency, seal compatibility and installation space before choosing a filter housing.
