Stainless Steel Filter Housing Material Guide
Stainless steel filter housings are widely used for industrial liquid filtration because they offer strength, cleanability and broad process compatibility. Material selection still requires careful review.
Selection Guidance
When this matters
304 stainless steel is commonly used for general industrial water, oils and many non-aggressive process liquids. It is often cost-effective when the liquid chemistry is mild and corrosion risk is low.
What to compare
316 stainless steel is commonly reviewed when chlorides, certain chemicals, higher cleanliness requirements or more demanding conditions are present. It is not a universal answer, but it provides improved corrosion resistance in many applications.
Common mistakes to avoid
Seal materials matter as much as housing material. EPDM, NBR, FKM and other gasket options behave differently with temperature, oils, solvents, acids and alkaline fluids. The wrong seal can cause leakage or premature failure.
Information to prepare
Before ordering, confirm liquid composition, temperature, cleaning chemicals, pressure, connection standard and whether documentation or surface finish requirements apply.
